As a means to bridge classroom and real-world learning, 5th grade students attended a survival class at Icelandic State Park as a final activity of their Hatchet by Gary Paulsen novel study. Students participated in some of the same skills from the book. Students created a shelter, practiced starting a fire, discussed basic survival items, and even were encouraged to taste dandelions! Thank you to Icelandic State Park interpreter Emily for an awesome afternoon! More photos on Cavalier PTO Facebook page.
