After assessing our field and facility conditions this morning, we have to cancel the Pembina County Outdoor track and field meet today in Cavalier. We hope to possibly move dates and/or reschedule if possible. We do feel we can host our May 4th meet.

Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating even on April 20th. With that, Cavalier School will be in virtual learning mode on Friday, April 21st. Power up the Chromebooks and learning packets. Hopefully this will be the last storm day of the year! Be safe everyone.

We plan on being in school tomorrow and Friday at this point, although there is a forecast of some snow tomorrow and into Thursday night. It looks like the high winds won't start until Thursday evening. We have communicated to students and staff today that there could be a possibility for virtual learning on Thursday and maybe even Friday, if this weather takes a severe turn for the worse. Students will be bringing home their Chromebooks tonight just in case. If school is in session tomorrow, please be sure to bring the Chromebooks back to school. Be safe everyone!

The Junior class of Cavalier Public school is set to complete another successful spring of Job Shadows in our area. The Job Shadow program has been an enduring and collaborative effort within the High School. The credit goes to the English Department’s Eric Kuhn with the support of Michelle Moquist. They guided our students through a unit of career discovery with activities about goals, interests and the world of work. The unit included a visit from Job Service North Dakota discussing available services and opportunities with the students. The culminating event of this unit is the Job Shadow in which all juniors, for over a decade, have participated in. A very special thank you to all of the businesses and organizations who supported our students during their Career Exploration. To fulfill certain speaking and listening standards, 5th grade students participated in a Socratic Seminar. Students developed a higher-level thinking question and prepared by answering that and other questions related to the novel Hatchet. Students then used those questions to hold a discussion. Students were asked to answer a question, ask a question, and reference another student in the discussion. Our seminar was held in shifts, with the inside circle discussing while the outside circle practiced listening skills and evaluated a peer in the discussion. After a certain time, students flipped roles. Tomorrow, students will draw conclusions from the information discussed to answer an essential question based on the novel.

Miss Zaharia's 5th grade ELA classes exercised creativity, one of the school's virtues, in projects completed as part of a novel study on Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Students could choose from a variety of projects: a diorama representing the setting of the story, a miniature raft exercising STEM skills that actually had to float, and a book jacket which included their own enticing summaries of the book, among others. Thank you parents for helping your child complete these awesome projects!
