FCS I discussed the importance of reading to children. They wrote and illustrated original books which had to include several types of figurative language. Today, they were able to share their creations with 1st graders!

Seniors are studying about our government in Problems of Democracy and get to try their hand at legislating as they participate in the House of Representatives & Senate in a Mock Congress. Students are getting first hand experience at how hard it is to get a bill from idea to "law" as they consider potential ideas to improve our school. Only time will tell if these students can get their bills through both houses of "Congress" and to Mr. Moquist's desk!!

5th Grade ELA classes finished their Hatchet novel study and related activities today. The students absolutely loved the book! At the end students created and presented projects such as designing a diorama of the setting, constructing a model plane of the one in the book, building a small scale raft that actually floats, among others. Today students participated in a Socratic seminar discussing different factors that were necessary to the main character's survival. The students did very well in all of the activities and had so much fun they asked to do it again and were thankful for the opportunity!

Please pick up your evergreen orders as soon as you can. They are sitting outside of the bus barn next to the parking lot and it's pretty windy out there! Happy Thanksgiving!

5th Grade ELA classes practiced responsible citizenry and wrote letters to save the horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We discussed the issue, reviewed sources, and wrote a formal argumentative essay to send to the park service. Some responses were sent in the mail, others were submitted via the online portal. The students really enjoyed an assignment that had a real-life meaning and had a connection to North Dakota!
